Certified Grief Educator | Trauma-Informed Therapist | Legal Strategist | Author | Life Re-entry Coach
Dorothy De'ame Hirse is one of Nigeria's emerging voices at the intersection of law, emotional healing, and transformational leadership. She is a seasoned legal practitioner, certified grief educator, trauma-informed therapist, and life re-entry coach whose work is helping individuals and institutions navigate the difficult terrain of loss, transition, and personal restoration.
With about 20 years of distinguished legal practice and extensive expertise in legislative drafting, Dorothy has built a career grounded in justice, governance, and policy. Beyond the courtroom and legislative chambers, she has become equally recognized for her commitment to restoring lives affected by grief, trauma, and emotional disruption. Her rare ability to combine legal precision with deep empathy enables her to serve people with both intellectual rigor and compassionate care.
Certified by internationally acclaimed grief expert David Kessler as a Grief Educator, Dorothy is also a Trauma-Informed Practitioner, Emotional Intelligence Facilitator, Mental Health First Aider, and trained professional in addiction support, social psychiatry, and motivational interviewing. Her multidisciplinary expertise equips her to guide individuals through healing journeys while empowering organizations to adopt more human-centered approaches to wellbeing and resilience.
Over a three-year period, Dorothy served as a Therapist with the iRevive Programme of the Miriam Gofwan Women and Children Foundation (MGWCF), Abuja, where she facilitated therapeutic interventions for twenty women across three carefully structured cohorts: Sapphire, Ruby, and Emerald. Through this pioneering initiative, she accumulated more than 200 hours of documented therapy sessions, providing trauma-informed support that enabled participants to process grief, rebuild emotional resilience, and reclaim their sense of identity and purpose. This intensive fieldexperience has significantly enriched her practical understanding of healing, making her therapeutic approach both evidence-based and profoundly human.
As the author of five deeply impactful books on grief, healing, and emotional recovery, including We Say Their Name, Pebbles Along My Path, We Never Knew It Was the Last Time, Sit With It: A Grief Journal, and Yin Yang Grief Workbook; Dorothy has become a trusted guide for individuals learning to live beyond loss. Her writings have offered hope and practical healing to widows, solo parents, caregivers, young adults, and many others navigating disenfranchised grief. Her life's mission extends beyond helping people survive painful experiences; she is passionate about equipping them to re-enter life with renewed courage, clarity, and purpose.
An engaging trainer with Cerca Africa (SOBCA) and a founding voice of the Octopus Speakers Pool (OSP), Dorothy is a compelling communicator whose presentations combine authenticity, professional insight, and emotional intelligence. Whether facilitating workshops, speaking on conference stages, coaching leaders, or mentoring aspiring authors, she inspires audiences to transform adversity into strength and purpose. She has also guided numerous emerging writers in discovering and publishing their own authentic stories.
Based in Abuja, Nigeria, Dorothy is a devoted mother of four whose appreciation for meaningful relationships, creative expression, and beautiful experiences reflects the very principles she teaches.
